Medical Program

Summer Young Life Outreach Program — Each week 375-400 high-school teens load up and head out for the best week of their lives. The services of one BC-licensed physician and one other BC-licensed medical professional (nurse, nurse practitioner, paramedic, or second physician) has been incorporated into the weekly team at Malibu to add a safety factor and an additional degree of professionalism to the medical service provided to our guests of the Summer YL Outreach program, participants in the Beyond Malibu hiking program, and possibly to boaters in distress. The volunteer medical team members and their family stay at camp during the Young Life camp week of service at no cost. To apply for the summer program, complete a Malibu Club Medical Program Application.

School Season Rental Group Opportunities— Outside of our summer program, we have other Young Life or outside non-profit groups rent out the whole facility. Each group must secure their own BC-licensed medical personnel (physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, paramedic). Malibu can assist US groups with medical team placement. If you are interested in your contact information being passed on to the rental groups who require assistance in securing medical coverage for their event, please fill out a Rental Group's Medical Team contact form. Those groups would be in touch with you directly about their event.

Canadian, non-BC licensed members will need to apply for a BC locum license through physiciansapply.ca three months prior to arrival.

The camp medical team's primary role is to provide timely triage assessment of guests who require medical care for an injury or an illness during their week at camp. They direct the course of action in the event of an emergency. One member of the medical team will attend the infirmary for one half hour after each meal to care for non-emergency issues like minor injuries, colds, sore throats, etc. The medical team is on call 24/7 for any emergencies. The medical team must also adequately document the medical record to reflect the care that has been given. At no time should any medical team member practice medicine that falls outside of their medical license and level of experience and training.

During the summer program, your spouse and minor children (ages 18 and younger) are invited to share the week with you. Whether it’s enjoying meals together, swimming in the pool, or watching Young Life summer camp in action — you are sure to have a great time. Time and space permitting, your family will have an opportunity to experience the many activities around camp.
