Young Life Summer Staff Program

Summer 2021

Please note that due to the extended US-Canada border closure, Young Life will not be operating their any of their discipleship programs at Malibu this summer. There are plenty of opportunities at other Young Life camps that are US-based. Please visit the Young Life website and speak to your local area staff about opportunities.

Volunteer College-Age Program

Summer Staff is Young Life's volunteer discipleship experience for those who are college aged. To be eligible you must be at least one year out of High School standard graduation age or are of college / post-college age.

The Summer Staff program centers around non-verbal and verbal witness of Christ in their lives, service to those around them, community living, and a deepening Christian spiritual life. The purpose is to prepare a place for campers to have space to encounter the person of Jesus. Each summer staff session is under one month long.

The Summer Staff serve the campers in roles which require considerable maturity to communicate the Gospel in non-verbal witness: like high-ropes elements, life guard, sites maintenance, and food services.

More information can be found on the Young Life website.

All non-Canadian citizens serving on Summer Staff will need to have a valid passport and nothing hindering them from entering a foreign country (please note that even something like a misdemeanor DUI in someone's past, even what might seem like a distant past or a minor event, will be possible cause for refusal of entry into Canada by border officials, which is out of Young Life or Malibu's control).

How do I apply for Summer Staff?
  • Check availability.
  • Complete an online Summer Staff application
  • You will need the email address of a Young Life staff member who is willing to write a staff recommendation on your behalf.
  • You will need your local Young Life mission unit number.
Qualified applicants who are actively involved in Young Life at a local level will be accepted starting at the beginning of each year. Some placements are made by Young Life College field staff. More information can be found on the Young Life website.

If you are involved with Young Life College, speak to your local Young Life leader about possible opportunities to serve as a team with others from your College at a Young Life camp together (not necessarily Malibu).
